When you think of “highlights,” you probably think of SportsCenter, or that last bit of local sports news before Colbert comes on. But as masculinity evolves, and men embrace their caring roles as never before, we think it’s time to appreciate highlights on a much more personal level.
Ever since our Title Sponsor Dove Men+Care brought us to MetLife Stadium in 2012 to talk fatherhood with Doug Flutie, we’ve known that we both share two very important beliefs:
- Men who compete professionally don’t necessarily achieve their most important accomplishments on the field.
- For most men, masculinity stems not how much you earn or how much you can lift, but from how much you give of yourself.
Over the years, Dove Men+Care has partnered with several extraordinary dads (who also happen to be professional athletes) and challenged the traditional notion of “highlights” to instead promote the personal moments of strength and care that men experience every day. They’ve showcased modern men embracing their caring roles, to reflect that three men in four feel this new view of masculinity has had a positive impact on society.
And today, we’re proud to help Dove Men+Care launch its latest iteration, the #RealStrength Highlight Reels of football pros Jordy Nelson and Carson Palmer, to reflect that most men, including the most accomplished male athletes, are vocal about and committed to their family roles.
Since 86% of modern men feel masculinity has changed since their father’s generation, Dove Men+Care continues to lead the way to help the worlds of sports and media catch up. We in the Dad 2.0 Community want to direct as much support to this effort as possible, and we hope you’ll click here to check out Carson and Jordy’s #RealStrength Highlight Reels, and share them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Our sports-crazy culture has conditioned a lot of us to associate highlights with stats for our fantasy leagues. But in reality, a man’s highlight reel comprises his personal, caring moments that define his true strength.
